Wrist Middle East has successfully implemented more automation and convenience for their warehouse workers through a Vertical Automated Storage Carousel & Retrieval System, ultimately improving picking speed and order accuracy – in benefit of the customers.
The new warehouse facility in Sharjah, that was opened in October 2023, has been upgraded with all the necessary automation, tools and inventory information needed to reduce the internal workload and optimize work processes for the warehouse workers.
“When we planned our new warehouse, we decided to implement automation. We were looking to improve the viewability of our stock and reduce our overall storage space, particularly for small items, which took up 10-15 racks in our old warehouse. We partnered up with UAE-based Acme Intralog, who recommended us to go for Kardex’ Vertical Automated Storage Carousel & Retrieval System,” says Charl Steyn, Warehouse Operations Manager, Wrist Middle East.
The Vertical Carousel Module System (VCM) uses the paternoster principle to provide quick and precise access to the stored items. It is built in line with the goods-to-person principle, with 62 carriers attached to a motor-powered chain drive, moving in a vertical loop around a track in both forward and reverse directions, thus increasing picking frequency.
“Now, we’re able to serve our customers better and faster than before. We’ve achieved 99% order accuracy and gained real-time stock visibility, which helps us deliver on-time, in-full. With this system, we’ve saved 75% floor space, optimized our work processes and increased customer satisfaction significantly,” says Charl Steyn, Warehouse Operations Manager, Wrist Middle East.
