Learning by doing

In 2008 I was backpacking for a longer period along with two friends, and at that time, I realised that being abroad, was the right thing for me to do. When I returned back to Denmark, I started searching for a job that could fulfil my ambitious expectations; here I came across Wrist’s trainee programme on their website; it seemed perfect.

I was invited to join two job interviews at the Wrist Group head office in Aalborg. Hereafter I was offered the job, and I was pleased to be informed that my expatriation destination was going to be in Dubai.

I got a very warm welcome, by a young, strong team with a high activity level in Wrist Middle East, on the 1st of February 2009, where the first year of my two-year contract, is going to take place; after this I don’t know where I shall be working; but who knows in an international company like Wrist?!

My experience so far, is that working as a sales-trainee in Wrist, gives you almost unlimited possibilities, and you will from day one be given a lot of responsibility, and steadily your responsibilities will grow – ‘learning by doing’ is the keyword here.

I find a good balance between theory and practice, and hereby I mean that some days you will be out on vessels doing the basic jobs, and some days you will be at the office, doing the backup.

One thing is for sure, two days will never be alike. Meanwhile learning all these different challenges, you also have to adapt to the foreign cultures you are facing, which is exciting. These realities are also what makes the Wrist trainee programme one of a kind.

Every year Wrist arranges a trainee gathering. This is a unique opportunity to build new friendships, and make international networking, which is necessary when working in a world wide company. Besides this gathering there are also other social activities, which develop good relations between the Wrist employees.

My prospect of the trainee programme is to gain knowledge in relation to my working area, and hereby be better prepared for the future, hoping to build up competence to maintain an international career.

The two-year trainee programme with Wrist is definitely a “once in a lifetime experience” for me. The opportunity of working abroad, experiencing other cultures, meanwhile educating through the programme, makes it an especially unique chance.
